The 790-012: the fee slip that goes with every NIE and card

For the state fee, the tasa, on a NIE certificate, a green certificate or a TIE card, Spain uses a single form: the Modelo 790, código 012. Tick the one box that matches what you are applying for, settle it at a bank counter or online before the day, and bring the stamped copy or the receipt with the rest of your file. The form belongs to the Policía Nacional.

Start my NIE

Filling in the form

  • Your surname and first name, exactly as they appear in your passport
  • Your NIE if you already have one, otherwise your passport number
  • Your address, in Spain or abroad
  • One box (casilla) ticked: the one for your procedure
  • The date and the place where you sign

One box, one procedure

The form lists the procedures of the Policía Nacional, each with its own box: the NIE certificate, the green certificate for Europeans, a first TIE card or its renewal, and others. Tick only the one that matches your request. When you tick it, the form shows the amount that applies, and that amount is the current fee.

At a bank counter, or online

Most people print the completed form and pay it at the counter of a Spanish bank that collects state fees. The form prints in several copies: the bank keeps one and stamps the others for you. The form also offers payment online, which gives you a receipt to print instead.

Pay before the day of the appointment. A slip that has been filled in but not paid does not count.

Small errors that cost an appointment

  • A box that does not match the procedure you booked
  • A name spelt differently from the passport
  • One payment for two people: each person pays their own fee
  • Leaving the stamped copies or the receipt at home

Questions on this floor

What does the fee come to?

Whatever the form shows: we do not publish an amount, because it is revised from time to time, and the form displays the current one as soon as you tick your box.

Can one payment cover my partner too?

No. Each person fills in and pays their own form, even when you attend together.

I paid under the wrong box. What now?

The office may not accept it. The usual fix is a new form under the right box, paid before the appointment. Ask us before you pay a second time.

Do I pay at the comisaría?

No. The fee is settled beforehand, at a bank or online, and the proof comes with you.
