Questions

Asked on a European passport

Living in Benidorm on a European passport means a NIE and, past three months, the green registration certificate. The questions below are the ones that come up most.

I have an EU passport and live in Benidorm. Which document do I need?

The EU registration certificate, better known as the green certificate. You ask for it on form EX-18; it records your residence and carries your NIE.

I am buying a flat but will keep living in Belgium. Do I register?

No. Registration is for residents. A buyer who lives abroad needs the NIE on its own, requested on form EX-15.

I am retired. What do I show to register?

Proof of your pension or other resources, and health cover: public cover arranged through your home country, or private insurance.

Where does the appointment take place?

The Comisaría de Benidorm on Calle Apolo XI lists the EU regime, and the Altea office of the Subdelegación lists the certificate too. The booking for the province of Alicante decides which you get, and your confirmation names it.

Is the fee paid at the appointment?

No. The Modelo 790 código 012 is paid beforehand, either at a bank or online; the stamped copy or the receipt then goes in your folder.

Should I register on the padrón before the police appointment?

It usually helps. Its certificate is the natural proof of your address, and offices often ask for it. In Benidorm the town hall registers people without an appointment.
